Abstract
19,573. McLean, D. Sept. 3. Chimney and ventilating- shaft tops.-A wind-tilted canopy a, surmounted by one or mnre flat annular disks f and preferably by a cap h, is mounted above a chimney &c. top b by means of straps c, d and a bolt e, or by other means. The lower edge of the canopy may tilt to leeward, or the apparatus may be weighted, fitted with vanes, or shaped so as to cause it to move towards the wind. The disks preferably decrease in diameter upwardly and the upper edge of the part a may be bevelled inwardly. The flue b may stand over one or more chimney flues, and, when the device is used as a ventilating-shaft top, the flue b or the shaft may be provided with an outlet for any rain entering between the disks f.
