Abstract

17,768. Bridge, J. H. Aug. 7. Gases and vapours, treating electrically.-Relates to apparatus for treating gases electrically, particularly for producing ozone or nitrogen compounds from the air. The electrodes are formed with perforations a<4> which may or may not be surrounded by projections a<5>, Figs. 1, 6, 7, and 8, or may be formed by the intersections of wires forming a netting or gauze a<6>, Fig. 3. The electrodes may be flat or tubular, and are provided with surfaces b<1> for deflecting the gas through the surrounding annular discharge as shown by the arrows. A fuse may be used to cut off the current if it should increase too much, or a fuse 12 may on giving way allow a shutter 4 to be drawn forwards by a spring 6, Fig. 6, or be turned about pivots 10 by a spring 9, Fig. 8, or fall by gravity, Fig. 7, so as to close the end of the electrode and stop the entering gas.
