Abstract
15,179. Foll, E. W. July 4. Liquids, spreading in thin layers; vaporizing by air currents; evaporating yeast to dryness. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, yeast falls from a heated jacketed hopper a into a heated jacketed cylinder b, wherein rotates a shaft carrying hollow blades e traversed by hot air, steam, or gases. The yeast falls through an aperture b<1> to a hopper i which leads to a casing l containing a drum h. The side wall i' and the end walls of the hopper fit against the drum surface ; the other side is adjustable by a slide. The drum h and the shaft carrying the blades e are traversed by hot air from the same source, the air being changed in direction in the drum h by means of baffles. A scraper in the closed hopper n removes the dried yeast which falls into a closed conveyer o. Air is passed in from the pipe q and circulates through the valved conveyer case and the drum casing l, finally escaping by the pipe l<1>. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the lower part only of the cylinder b is jacketed, and an opening is left in the upper part of its end so that the fluid yeast may fall into the hopper i, the wall i<1> of which forms the lower part of the casing of the drum h.
