Toothed wheels.-A toothed wheel for motor-car gears &c. is built up from layers of wood C with interposed sheets B of wire-gauze, pressed together after treatment with a coating of cement. The pressed composite block, after drying, is placed between two side plates A, Fig. 1, which are secured together by screws &c. D. It is then bored and turned and the teeth cut, or the teeth may be cut before fixing to the plates A. For large wheels, sections C, Fig. 3, of a ring are cut from the composite block and mounted between plates A' on a base G.
