Abstract
21,550. Hammond, O. S. Oct. 23. Pulleys and driving-drums ; toothed wheels.- Pulleys and toothed and other wheels are constructed to facilitate mounting &c. The rim is built up of segmental strips A<5>, preferably of wood, in layers as shown in Fig. 1, and has a transverse opening or passage A<6>. The spokes B, B' are similarly formed in layers glued &c. together, the ends of alternate strips extending between strips in the rim to secure the parts together. A key or gate A<8> fits the concaved, tongued, &c. ends of the rim to close the gap. The shaft is held in a central bushing B<12> having a separable segment B" corresponding to its internal diameter. The bushing is supported in a bearing-block B<7>, attached to the spokes by tougues B<8> and tap screws B<9>. When adjusted on the shaft, the cross draw bolt D' draws the ends of the rim together to hold the key. In Fig. 4, a modification is shown in which a partly bifurcated metal spoke D' is used.
