Facing-tiles. - Glass tiles a for facing walls, partitions, ceilings, &c. are provided with an impervious and elastic backing b, which has undercut grooves to facilitate adhesion to cement. The grooves may be of dovetailed shape. The packing is pressed on to the roughened glass plate in a plastic condition, and the grooves are formed by means of dies or rolls. The backing may consist of bitumen, asphalt, resin, &c., or a mixture of two or more of these, together with sand, pumice, or the like, and, if desired, a fibrous material such as asbestos.
