11,760. Imray, O., [Society of Chemical Industry in Basle]. May 19. Dyes, artificial.-Red, violet, and blue vat-dyeing dye-stuffs are produced by heating salicylthioacetic acid or thioindoxyl (oxythionaphthene) with the alpha-arylides of isatin or its homologues or substitution products, and acetic anhydride or an aromatic nitrohydrocarbon. When #-arylides are employed, red dyes which are probably identical with those described in Specification No. 10,405, A.D. 1906, are obtained. According to examples, a violet blue dye is obtained when alpha-isatinanilide is employed, and red-violet to blue dyes are obtained from methylisatin-alpha-toluidide or alpha- or #-naphthylisatinarylides.
