Abstract

16,417. Newton, H. E., [Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.]. Aug. 15. Dyes, artificial.-New basic dyes are produced by condensing, in the presence of acids, p-diamidobenzophenone, or its alkylated derivatives, or the corresponding thioketones or auramines, with derivatives of alpha-methylindole, or alpha-phenylindole, which are alkylated in the imido group, or with derivatives of the said alkylated compounds which are also substituted in the benzene nucleus. Alternatively, p-diamido-benzhydrol, or its derivatives, may be used in place of p-diamidobenzophenone, or its derivatives, and the leuco bases thus produced are then oxidized. The following alkylated indoles are mentioned :-Pr1<n>:2-dimethylindole, Pr1<n>-methyl-, or ethyl-, 2-phenylindole, Pr1<n>- ethyl - 2 - methylindole, B3 : Pr1<n> - dimethyl - 2 - phenylindole, B3 : Prln : 2-trimethylindole, B3- chloro - Prln : 2 - dimethylindole, B3-chloro - Pr1<n>- methyl-, or ethyl-, 2-phenylindole, B3-chloro-Pr1<n>- ethyl-2-methylindole, and B3-methyl-Pr1<n>-ethyl- 2-methyl, or phenyl-, indole. The oxygen, or sulphur, or NH2 group, is replaced in this reaction by the foregoing indole radicals. The products dye silk, wool, and cotton mordanted with tannin, red, reddish-violet, violet, and blue shades.
