9763. Connell, F. R. April 26. Incandescent lamps, holders for, with switches. Contact is made between two terminals vertically over one another by pushing in a rod from one side, the rod being held by a spring detent until released to put out the light. The casing of the switch is of usual construction, and contains a block F, which is hollowed out in the centre to contain the working parts. One supply wire c' is passed through the block, and connected to one spring contact C<1>. The other wire c<2> is connected to a bevelled contact strip C which is vertically over a stud c, this being in electrical connection with the fixed part of the other spring contact. The contacts C, c are bridged by electrically connected strips g', g<2> on an insulating plunger H, which is loose on the rod J but is kept pressed against a collar l on the rod by a spring M. A spring L acting on the other side of the collar returns the rod plunger to the ' off ' position. To lock the rod in the 'on' position with the springs M, L compressed, a nose N on a lever, pivoted at n within the hollow end of the rod, is pressed outwardly by a spring O through a slot. The nose .thus takes a bearing against the outside of a ring k<1>, in which the rod is journaled, and can be released to allow the rod to return, by pressing a thumb-piece p. Abutting contacts may be used instead of the wedging fingers g<1>, the spring L in each case serving to return the movable part of the switch.
