Abstract
9327. Seymour, H. W. April 20. Coke ovens.-Horizontal ovens are provided in each wall with horizontal heating flues divided into two systems by means of a median transverse partition so arranged that the heating-gases pass through the same length of fine in each system. There may be two such sets of flues in each wall, the sets being separated by a longitudinal partition which may serve to supply air. Fig. 1 shows sections through the oven and the wall, and Fig. 3 shows a section on the line X<2>-Y<2>. The two systems of flues are separated by the wall 7 ; in the first system gas is supplied through an opening 5 and pisses along the flues 4, 6, 8, and in the second system gas is supplied to a flue 10 and passes along the flues 10, 11, 12, the gases from the two systems joining and passing through the sole flue 9 to the uptake 17. Each of the flue systems is twice the length of the oven. Air is supplied to the flues through apertures 15 communicating with channels 13, 14 in the longitudinal partition. By this arrangement it is possible to admit air for the purpose of heating one oven, without admitting air to adjacent flues of the next oven. Air, warmed in passing through the arches 3, passes round the uptake 17 and along a flue 18 and thence through vertical passages 19, 20 to supply the channels 13, 14. In some cases the air supply through the longitudinal partition may be dispensed with and the air supplied by other means.
