Abstract
8407. Newton, P. A., [Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.]. April 7. Antiseptics. - Soluble silver compounds of nucleinic acids, or of formonucleinic acids, [Specification No. 11,882, A..D. 1902], are stated to possess antiseptic properties. They are prepared by first converting the free acids, or their salts, e.g. the sodium salts, into insoluble silver compounds by treatment with silver nitrate, freshly precipitated silver oxide or carbonate, &c. Further treatment with soluble neutral salts, such as sodium chloride or acetate, potassium bromide, &c., results in the formation of soluble silver compounds, which are isolated by precipitating with alcohol, or by evaporating to dryness and washing the residue with alcohol. The compounds are yellowish powders, soluble in water, insoluble in ether or benzene, and containing 15-25 per cent of silver, which is not precipitated by caustic lye or common salt.
