Abstract

7148. Watts, W. March 24. Last - holders. - A number of arms A, each carrying a lastholder, are revolubly mounted in the upper end of a pedestal B, and are in turn locked in their operative positions by a spring- pressed plunger 0 controlled by a foot pedal D &c. or the like, Instead of this arrangement, a cam and wedge movement which assists the swinging movement of the arms may be used. Each arm carries a revoluble plate E, in which are slidably mounted a heel post F, and the support G for a hollowed-out and padded toe-rest G. The support G is pivoted at G<2> to a sliding block H, through a lug in which there passes a spring-pressed pin E', Fig. 3. The block H is actuated by a plunger M, which is connected through a series of links L', L<2>, L<1> to a pedal L, or by other means. When the latter is depressed, the pad G<1> first contacts with the shoe at about the instep, and then moves towards the toe with an action that wipes the upper over the last. When this is completed, the block H is locked in the position to which it has been moved, by the engagement of a spring pin J with teeth J on the side of the block. Stop pins are provided to adjust the inclination of the arm G
