Abstract

6356. Gillie, J. W. March 16. Parallel rulers. - Relates to parallel rulers, especially of the type described in Specification No. 5785, A.D. 1892, and consists in pressing the roller spindle into its bearings by means of springs attached to the ruler carriage so as toprevent looseness due to wear. In Figs. 1 and 3, C are the milled rollers attached to the spindle S. The ruler holder A, B consists of a piece of sheet metal bent round the spindle S so that the ruler can be held between its ends A. The lower part of the holderhas, soldered to it a nut, with which a binding-screw D engages for clamping the ruler in the holder. The spindle S works in triangular or semicircular bearings F soldered to the carriage, and is kept in position by springs G attached to the lower part of the carriage. This spring may consist of a tongued piece partly cut from the carriage. A holder E is screwed into the carriage. Friction may be reduced by rollers attached to the ends of the springs G.
