4654. Everson, W. H. Feb. 26. Letters and numerals; signs.- Relates to illustrated signs in which scintillating effects are produced. Two or more plates A, B, C, Fig. 6, have letters &c. produced upon them by circular, square, or other perforations, and are mounted upon eccentrics driven by suitable means. A translucent, transparent, or opalescent screen v<1>, Fig. 3, may be placed between the light T and the perforated sheets, or as at v<2> may be placed close in front of the sheets, or it may be placed between the sheets A, B. Or the screen may be placed a suitable distance in front of the sheets A, B, Fig. 4, or light may be projected through the perforations by a magiclantern arrangement, Fig. 5, on to a screen X, or the sheets A, B may be reflective, in which case the light is placed slightly in front of them so as to reflect them on to a screen. The sheets A, B may be curved, Fig. 10, and may form complete circles in plan. Instead of being opaque and perforated, the sheets A, B may be transparent or translucent and the letters &c. may be formed thereon by marks or blanks, or where perforations are used they may be covered by coloured glass.
