Window-holders; windows. - Relates to a sash-jamming device for holding the sashes in any position, for preventing rattling, and for excluding draught, dust, or weather. The parting-bead c on each side of the window is part of a movable stile b, pivoted at several places on studs g of arms e, which are themselves pivoted to the window frame at h. The stop beads d are pivoted in a similar manner, at f, to the arms e. The lowest arm e is extended to form a handle o, on depression of which the parting-bead c is jammed against the upper sash, while the lower sash is jammed between the bead and the stop bead d. The sashes are positively held in any position by means of racks q formed thereon and simultaneously engaged by a double-ended pawl r. This pawl is pivoted in a line with the pivot of one of the arms e, and is rocked by means of a pin-andgroove connexion with the movement of the latter. By arranging the studs f, g of the lower operating- arm e to move in curved slots in the sliding members b, d, the latter may be made to move, for the purpose of jamming the sashes, in an horizontal diraction only, tha upper studs f, g moving in straight horizontal slots.
