Abstract

914. Stillwell, F. W. Jan. 12. Telescopes combined with bayonets. The small end of the telescope, shown in Fig. 4, is threaded to receive the screw stud 12 of the bayonet tip 13. The bayonet is fixed to the barrel by a stud engaging in the slot 23 of the plate 22, and by the guard 24, shown in Fig. 9, which has openings 25, 26 to receive the telescope tube and barrel respectively. Fig. 8 shows a device for holding the telescope on the barrel for sighting purposes. The front end of the telescope is clamped in the ring 35 carried by the screwed stalk 34 mounted in the sleeve 33, which is carried by the block 30 and is traversed laterally for windage by means of the screw 31. The rear end of the telescope may be supported by a suitable clamp attachment to the rifle.
