Abstract

678. Tompkins, H. K. Jan. 10 Chloracetic ether. - Acetylene tetrachloride or ethylene trichloride is heated with sodium or potassium ethylate, and the resulting dichlorethoxyethylene is heated with alcohol, yielding chloracetic ether. In examples, an alcoholic solution of ethylate is employed, and the resulting mixture of the dichlorethoxy body with alcohol may be heated to produce chloracetic ether ; or the ethoxy body may be separated and afterwards heated with alcohol.
