Pumping-engines; valves and valvegear; valves and valve-gear, setting &c. - In a combined fluid - actuated and mechanical valve-gear, the main slide valve i is actuated by two auxiliary pistons of circular, square, or polygonal cross-section S, S' adjustably mounted on the screwed valve spindle J. Steam is admitted to the auxiliary chambers by a slide valve T actuated by toothed gearing X, Y from the piston-rod, and exhausted through piston-rod, and exhausted through separate passages R<1> controlled by the pistons S, S<1>. The pistons S, S' may act as the main slide valve. An index 4 is provided for indicating the valve travel.
