Abstract
25,549. Kelly, A., and Hansen, C. D. B. Dec. 8. Lathes.-Machines for facing the roller-paths of warship-barbettes, of the kind in which a rotatable pivoted beam is carried on a central pivot provided with roller and ball bearings, are fitted with extension arms having slide-rests adapted to carry facing-tools for operating on work of large diameter, thus avoiding the necessity for employing separate machines for different sizes. Fig. 3 is a half-plan of the machine. A motor K drives a countershaft (not shown) by a chain-belt, and transmits motion through double-worm gearing to pinions, on the shafts of the worm-wheels G, meshing with a fixed toothed ring E. An extension arm N is shown in dotted lines fitted to the surface C' of the beam. Fig. 6 shows an elevation of an extension arm provided with an emery wheel S. A separate motor (not shown) on the beam drives a pair of countershafts belted to the shafts T of the emery wheels.
