Abstract

25,267. Simone, G. de. Dec. 5, 1964, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Safety-valves.-A safety-valve is constructed so as to give a small discharge when the excess pressure is small and a large discharge when the excess pressure is beyond a certain limit. The seat a is formed with two concentric rings n, o, the outer ring o being the higher; from the seat rises a hollow pillar g, which is connected to the seat by ribs, leaving passages k outside the pillar. A piston head l carried by the pillar forms a guide for the valve, which consists of a cap b and an outer mantle r. The lower edge of the mantle lies a short distance from the outer seat ring o when the lower edge of the valve cap b is closed on the inner seat ring n. For a small excess of pressure, the valve is opened by the pressure acting through the hollow pillar on the underside of the cap b. When the pressure exceeds the limit, the lower edge of the valve cover is raised farther so as to allow the escaping steam to impinge against the outer seat ring o ; the steam is thereby divided upwards and acts on the outer mantle r, raising the valve and giving a quick relief.
