Gramophones.-The sound box of a gramophone consists of two separate and opposed sound boxes each possessing a single diaphragm in which these diaphragms are operated from a single needle. Fig. 1 shows two such opposed sound boxes a, b with diaphragms m, m<1>. The single needle o is in a holder mounted on rocking knife-edges and this holder may be bifurcated forming two branches d, d' which are in connexion with the diaphragms or a single cross-rod may join the diaphragms and the holder extended into a single arm attached to the middle of the cross-rod.
