Abstract

23,172. Pieper, H. Sept. 29, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to mechanicallypropelled vehicles employing electric storage, and consists in providing a separate explosion motor and electric motor for each driving-wheel. The invention is shown in Fig. 2 applied to a vehicle having two driving-wheels. The petrol motors 7, 8 are coupled to the electric motors 9, 10, and drive the road wheels through chain gearing. When the motor-car is travelling downhill, the electric motors are used as generators and charge the accumulators 11. The control is effected by a lever 13 adapted to connect the motors either in series or in parallel, a further control being effected by altering the exciting current or by varying the air-gap between the armature and the field magnets.
