Abstract

21,004. Powell, B. F. S. Baden-. Oct. 17. Conveyers; lifts.-A continuous platform for the conveyance of passengers or goods moves on an elevated endless track so that ordinary traffic may pass beneath. The platform is supported on a girder track carried by standards C or the like at convenient intervals, and consists of a series of boards D provided with seats and coupled together to enable it to travel round a curve. Access to the platform is obtained by means of inclined moving stairways F or lifts, Fig. 4, running adjacent thereto, after reaching the desired height, at such a rate that the passengers may step on to the platform. Intermediate platforms d may be arranged to facilitate transference to the fastest platform. If the platforms move over rollers, these may be of different diameters and journaled on the same shaft. Motion may be imparted to the main platform by means of the inclined tracks or lifts. Hand-rails K moving with the platforms are provided, and are protected by rings where they pass over pulleys to prevent a person's hand or clothing becoming jammed.
