Electric railways and tramways. - Supports for overhead conductors of the type described in Specification No. 29,064, A.D. 1904, [Abridgment Class Electricity, Regulating &c.], and so constructed as to prevent longitudinal movement of the cable except in the case of rupture. For this purpose, a metal part a is provided, which can be clamped at various angles to the insulator b by means of clips c, c<1> and the polygon heads e, e<1>, and a lever f is. pivoted to the part a by a pin g, and carries from a pin j the clamps h for holding the conductor i, and also a forked arm o on which the conductor rests. Arms k, k<1> carrying V-shaped or curved pieces n, n<1> are also provided, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, so that, as long as the conductor i is unbroken, it is held rigidly fixed. If the cable breaks, the arm f swings over, causing the cable i to make contact with the arm n or n' and thus actuate the automatic safety switch. If the safety cable is below the conductor i, the arm n' will effect the necessary short-circuit, and the arm n can be omitted.
