Abstract
19,337. Kenrick & Jefferson, and Kenrick, A. C. Sept. 25. Envelopes.-Relates to envelopes made in the form of a continuous strip for use in typewriters. A strip of paper, equal in width to four times the depth of the envelope and twice the closing-flap, is provided with transverse strips b of gum or other adhesive. The edges of the strip are then folded over as shown in Fig. 2, and if necessary a longitudinal strip of gum is applied to the centre of the middle portion c. The strip is then perforated along a central line d and transverse lines e, e<2>, the former line passing through the gummed strip o and the latter to one side of it. The strip is then passed through a cutting-machine to form the flaps. The envelopes are detached along the lines e and are opened by tearing off the portion outside the line e<2>, Fig. 4. The envelopes may be made in single strips, or, if desired, the gummed strip may be perforated to leave a detachable strip at both sides of the envelope to facilitate opening.
