Abstract

18,710. Herbert, E. G., and Fletcher, C. Sept. 16. Belt and band fastenings.-A fastener for connecting the ends bf driving-belts &c. comprises a pair of members of the form shown in Fig. 1, one member being fastened to each end, and the parts then connected by a pin c passing through the alternately-arranged looped ends as shown in Fig. 6. Each member consists of a number of staple-like units a of wire or narrow sheet-metal strips having turned-down ends which are intended to be clinched into the belt and with shoulders formed preferably by a double coil of the staple. These shoulders serve to connect the series of staples together by means of a pin &c. b, and also serve as abutments to facilitate correct fixing of the device on the belt end. In modifications, various forms of shoulders may be provided upon the staples, the connecting-pin b may be interlaced or soldered to the staples, or may comprise a bolt and nut which may be eventually withdrawn, or the staples may be interlaced as shown in Fig. 10, and soldered or galvanized, thus dispensing with the connecting-pin b.
