Abstract

17,329. Liddle, J., [Knickerbocker Co.]. Aug. 28. Dust-collectors. - In a centrifugal dust-collector of the " cyclone sepa- " rator " type, the axis of the helical path described by the dust-laden air is curved instead of being coincident with the axis of the casing as usual. (1) In the preferred form of casing, the usual cylindrical head 12 is made slightly conical, an annular shoulder 13 is left at the juncture of the head and conical portion, and an inclined channel 41, extending the whole depth of the head, is provided for facilitating the downward travel of the dust. In forming the channel as shown, the metal 39 below an inclined slot is bent outwards and a wooden closing-strip 40 is provided. (2) A circular air outlet in the cover is made adjustable in size and adjustable also in a position eccentric to the axis of the casing. To this end, a flanged eccentric sheave 18, free to rotate within the hole 16 in the cover, is provided with several nesting-rings 20. (3) The air inlet is made adjustable in width to adapt the collector to various sizes of inlet piping, a plate 23 and an angular plate 24 being provided, which are secured by bolt-and slot connexions 27. (4) A curved baffle 33 is provided, which is adjustable in length and curvature, and preferably extends from the casing wall near the inlet to a point which is a less distance from the air outlet than the smallest effective width of the air inlet. The baffle comprises a fixed plate 31 having a bolt-and-slot connexion 36 with an adjustable extension 35. To render the plates adjustable in curvature, each is secured to a row of supporting-blocks 32, which taper towards their outer edges so as to leave V-shaped spaces, and are encircled by a flexible band or wire fixed to one end block and adjustably clamped to the other. (5) The dust-discharge outlet is provided with a movable funnel-shaped member 42, thereby forming a discharge aperture 43 of adjustable position.
