Sewage and foul w a t e r s, treating; settling and decanting; filtering.- The apparatus, which is specially intended for sewage and waste waters, consists of a receptacle the upper part of which is divided into compartments by inclined p a rtitions 3. Pairs of compartments are separated at the bottom by curved plates 12. Liquid is supplied by overflow troughs 10, flows round the lower ends of the partitions 3, filters through the solids deposited on the plates 12, and passes away by the troughs 11. When sufficient solid matter has accumulated, valves 14 are opened and may be adjusted so that the matter is discharged into the conical portion 1 as fast as it collects. The partitions 3 may be vertical. Narrow channels, slots, cocks, or the like may be provided near the surface of the liquid in the admission compartments for the continuous or periodic removal of oil and fat collecting there. In one modification, the plates 12 are omitted so that no filtering action takes place. In another, the receptacle is divided by cylindrical partitions into concentric compartments.
