Copying documents.-A means for smoothing and feeding the letters to the copying-rollers 2, 3 of the copying-apparatus 1, 2, 3, throngh which the moistened web of copying- paper 9 passes, comprises a swinging feed and smoothing roller 6 and a feeding-plate 18, fixed or pivoted in the oscillating frames 19 carrying the roller 6. In Figs. 1 and 2, the letter 21 is shown placed on an inclined table 20 against the stop on the frame 19, and the latter then moves down, permitting the letter to fall on to the roller 2. The frame 19 then moves up, the plate 18 directing the letter between the rollers 2, 3, and the rollers 6, 3 feeding it in. The roller 6 lays the letter round part of the roller 3 and acts to smooth it. In Figs. 3 and 4, two feedrollers 6, 7 and an horizontal feed-table 20 are shown. The letter is fed up to the plate 18, Fig. 4, and the plate and roller 6 then move down to the feeding position, Fig. 3. Similar arrangements to that described in Figs. 3 and 4 are described in connexion with copying-rollers 2, 3 having their axes in the same horizontal plane or nearly so.
