Abstract
12,787. Tondeur, C. H. June 20. Forming articles with wire skeletons; rolling.- Wire glass is formed by rolling glass over a table 1, Figs. 2 and 3, by means of a roller 2 formed at its ends with teeth 15, which engage racks 16 loosely mounted on, or preferably fixed each by one screw to, the sides of the table. In operation, the wire A is clamped between the end 14 of the table, which is bolted to the table, and an adjustable vertical slide 13, by means of which the height of the wire above the table, and consequently the depth to which the wire is embedded, is regulated. The wire is guided by a roller 3 mounted in arms, adjustable pivotally and longitudinally with respect to a bar 12 mounted between two guide-plates 4, adjustably connected by arms 5 to the roller 2, so that the guide-plates move with the roller. The wire is kept taut by a shoe 11, set to the required position by means of set-screws 9, which connects it to rods 18. As the roller is moved in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2, the wire is embedded in a sheet of glass, the thickness of which is regulated by using racks 16 of different heights. The width of the glass is regulated by guides 8 adjustably bolted to a bar 7 connecting the guide-plates 4, and different rollers 3 and shoes 11 are used with different widths of sheets.
