Abstract

12,434. Menzel, W. June 15. Pianofortes. -In an instrnment having two independent keyboards of different kinds, mounted on a reversible frame, so that either keyboard may be employed, the reversible frame is provided with a groove 3 at each end engaged by pins 2 fixed in the frame of the instrument. To reverse the keys, the frame is pulled outwards by means of handles 16, which are normally hidden in recesses, and is allowed to drop. The upper end is then pulled over, and the frame is held between stops 15 and spring catches 13 ready for playing. The keys may be prevented from falling out by a strip fixed across them. Or they may be held by springs which may also be used for the purpose of adjustmg the touch. Brackets 24 held in bearing- blocks at each end are provided with flat and spiral springs 25 and adjusting-screws 26. One set of keys may be of the ordinary width and the others narrower.
