Abstract

10,821. Baines, W. May 24. Motor road vehicles.-Consists of a two-wheeled frame carrying a motor and driving-mechanism, for attachment to the rear of an ordinary cycle. The frame comprises several vertical tubular members a connected at the top by a transverse tube b, and at the bottom by tubes c, which carry the road wheels at their outer ends and support the rear axle of the bicycle at their inner ends. The auxiliary frame is also connected by a clamp l and bolts to the back fork of the bicycle. The motor is supported by the auxiliary frame, and drives by a chain the differential gear on an intermediate shaft passing through the transverse tube b, from which motion is conveyed to the road wheels by chains k. The oil tank is carried between the vertical tubes a on the side opposite to the motor. The rear wheel r of the bicycle may if desired be raised clear of the ground. In a modification, the transverse tube b is connected to the bicycle frame by diagonal tubes fixed to the back fork immediately below the saddle.
