Abstract

6805. Jones, W., and Hall, J. March 31. Brakes.--Relates to starting aud stopping gear for sewing and other machines. When the lever h is pressed down, the driving-pulley g is moved, in the direction of the length of the shaft f, into frictional engagement with the loose driven pulley e. On reverse movement of the lever, the pulleys are disconnected and a brake k is pressed by a spring l into engagement with the pulley e. Instead of fixed collars being provided for the bearings of the pulley g as shown, the shaft f may be enlarged to cause the movement of the pulley g. The pulley e may fit directly on the shaft f, or its boss may extend into the arm c to form a bearing.
