Abstract

6787. Friedmann, M. March 30. Vaporizing - a p p a r a t u s; flame deflectors.- In vapour burners for motor vehicles and the like, comprising a main burner B and an auxiliary burner b, the latter is provided with means whereby it can operate notwithstanding that the main burner is supplied with vapour at a higher pressure; means are also provided for cleansing the vaporizing-coils by steam, water, or the like. The main and auxiliary burners B, b are arranged in the same combustion chamber, and the latter burner, besides heating the main vaporizing-coil A, has part of its flame deflected by a plate c through perforations in a hood d on to the auxiliary .vaporizing-coil a. The vapour from the main burner is. ignited by the flame of the auxiliary burner, which may then be closed. The coil a of the auxiliary burner is always maintained by the main burner sufficiently hot to be started at any time, the vapour being ignited by the flame of the main burner. The main vaporizer is supplied with oil by a pump e fed by a reservoir which also communicates directly with the auxiliary vaporizer. In order to enable the low-pressure auxiliary burner to operate against high pressure in the combustion chamber, the burning vapour current, which is obstructed by the plate c, is enabled to escape through the perforations in the hood, whereby the sides of the latter are maintained red-hot and afford the necessary impact surface to ignite the vapour. To effect cleansing of the burners, steam or water may be supplied thereto in the known manner by a pipe such as k, which is shown connected to the supply tube of the auxiliary burner.
