Abstract

6372. Davis, G. H. March 25. Automatic instruments.-In the tune-sheet winding-mechanism shown, the take-up roll 4 is provided with the flange 17, or clutch element, and the rotatable clutch element 22, which is driven from the pinion 12 through the pulley 7 and wheel gearing, is loose on the shaft 13, so that, by the pivoted hand-lever 27, the oparator may disengage the clutch elements and stop the movement of the tune-sheet, without stopping the driving-mechanism. On the threaded portion 19 of the shaft 13 is screwed the abutment 20 for the spring 26, which spring normally forces the clutch element 22 into engagement with the flange element 17. When it is desired to prolong a note, or chord, for a definite period, the operator swings the lever 27 to throw the clutch faces out of operative relation.
