Abstract

5202. Turner, C. A. P., and Wunder, J. March 13. Concrete buildings; columns; floors; buildings with metal skeletons.-Reinforced concrete columns and floors are formed integrally by arranging rods in detachable moulds and casting concrete therein. Fig. 1 shows the moulds for the columns and floor beams, and Fig. 4 the metallic reinforcing. Projections b on the moulds A form brackets for the floor beams, and the moulds B have inclined upper edges c to form flanges on the beams. Joists f, supporting moulds for the floor slabs, rest on ledges c<1>. The columns consist of rods h, Figs. 4 and 6, bent at their upper ends and stayed by bands i and clamps j, Fig. 7 ; wire netting I<1> or expanded metal may be placed round the skeleton. In a modification, shown in Fig. 11, angle-irons and plates are used. The floor tension rods, Fig. 9, are then arranged over the rods h and above them spacing-bars I, Figs. 12 and 14, and rods n<1>, n. The concrete filling consists of cement, crushed rock, sand, and water.
