Abstract

4102. Connett, A. N. Feb. 27. Electric tramways.-In a slot-conduit tramway system, wherein a single track communicates with double or branched track sections, an arrangement of conduits, slots, and points is employed such that, if the single line be subsequently doubled, a large portion of the single-line conduit or conduits can serve without alteration for the double line. The conduits, for this purpose, are disposed beneath the groove of one rail of the wheel track, and are directed into this position at the single-track sections if central conduits are employed, the ploughs on the cars being capable of transverse movement. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement where the single line runs at or near the centre of the roadway, and where, if the line be doubled, as shown by the dotted lines, the two tracks will be at either side of the old track. In this arrangement, the conduits do not cross one another, this latter configuration being, however, described in the Specification. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the single line lies at the side of the roadway, a common conduit being employed. In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, there are conduits below both track rails. In these two latter forms, it is not possible to construct both conduits permanently where the line is to be doubled subsequently.
