Abstract

855. Boocock, H. B., and Boocock, E.H. Jan. 16. Pistons; pistonrods; cross-heads &c.-Means is described for rotating the piston and piston-rod to equalize the wear in steam-engines, gas, oil, and water-pressure engines, pumps, and the like. The connecting-rod reciprocates a link U, which,by means of ratchet gear, rotates a worm M supported by the crosshead and gearing with a worm-wheel G which is mounted on the pistonrod, and connected therewith by a cotter, or, in the case of large engines, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Here the worm G is secured to the rod by a toothed or. serrated clutch Y held in position by bolts 1. These allow of adjustment.
