Abstract

185. Arnold, E., and La Cour, J. L. Jan. 4. Motors, alternating-current.-Three brushes are employed in a single-phase compensated alternating- current series commutator motor, two of which B<2>, B<3>, Fig. 1, are short-circuited and are arranged on the commutator so that the field of the stator S is almost entirely neutralized. The shortcircuited brushes in a bipolar motor, as shown, are placed apart at angles between 90 degrees and 180 degrees. When large currents are used, the number of brushes per pair of poles is doubled, each set of three brushes being independent of the others, but the armature winding is short-circuited in nearly the same direction by each of the two sets. In Fig. 3, the two groups B<1>, B<2>, B<3> and B<4>, B<5> B<6> of brushes are fed from the secondaries W<2>, W3 of a transformer, the common primary W<1> of which is situated in the stator circuit. With wave windings fewer brushes may be used.
