28,399. Smith, M. A. Dec. 27. Spanners.-An adjustable spanner has a movable jaw 10 sliding on a stem 6, provided with a rack 9. A pawl 16 is mounted in the hollow boxing of the movable jaw, and is made to engage the rack by means of a helical spring 14. A spring plate 13, against which the other end of the helical spring presses, serves to keep the guide-loops 11, 12 close to the stem.
