Abstract
28,057. Czigler, P., and Rosenberg, L. Dec. 21. Sleepers; rails, securing to sleepers. -Relates to the construction of sleepers made from cementitious material with metal trusses or reinforcements, and to means for securing railway rails thereto. Fig. 1 shows a central longitudinal sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan of a sleeper with the rail secured to it. A sleeper consists of a body 3 formed of concrete or the like and provided with hollow spaces 1, 2 in order to give elasticity. Iron or other metal wires 4 are embedded in the material for strengthening purposes, and, at the parts where the rails rest, the sleeper is formed solid and surrounded by a metal plate or casing 5. On the upper surface of this plate 5 are formed ribs 5<1>, between which is located a rail-securing block 7, Figs. 5 and 6, fixed in position by the curved bolt 12. A downwardly - directed projection 14 is formed on the plate 5 so as to bear against the bolt 12. The aperture 11 in the fixing-block 7 is preferably elongated so as to permit lateral displacement of the rails on curves &c. The teeth formed on the parts 5<1>, 7 prevent accidental displacement. This method of securing the rails is also stated to prevent them from creeping.
