Filing papers &c.-Relates to a lock for looseleaf ledgers, temporary binders, files, &c., especially to those which are closed and opened by a sliding or screwed spindle. The body a, which is secured to the file &c. by the projection b, has a hole c into which a plug e is inserted, the spring- controlled piston r of the latter engaging the end of the spindle d. Springs f, g on the body a engage in slots h, j between the projections k, m of the plug e, so as to prevent withdrawal of the latter. The body a is slotted at t for allowing the plug to be inserted. The spring g is made wider than the spring f, so that it cannot catch in the slot h when the plug is inserted. For the purpose of withdrawing the plug, a keyway n is provided, the key being constructed so that its wards may force the springs f, g out of their slots. A stop o limits the motion of the springs.
