Blind-stitching machines ; overedge-stitching machines; work-supports; folding-devices ; trimming or cutting.-In making knitted shirts and like garments, the semicircular piece which is cut out to form the neck opening is sewn on to the back by blind-stitching. For this purpose, the material is folded, as shown in Fig. 2, and placed between semicircular jaws m, r of a special spring-closed work-clamp. The lower jaw m is secured to a spindle l, and the upper jaw r to a sleeve o revolubly mounted in a swinging bracket h. The jaw m is provided with a plate having a conical rim m<1> around which the work is folded. The work clamp is free on its spindle and rotates as the work is fed by the usual feed-dog d. The position of the device relative to the needle can be adjusted by a screw. A collar w on the sleeve o bears upon a cam-surface x, so that, when the device is moved on its hinge i, the jaws are opened. Two cutters a<1>, b<1> precede the needle and cut out the semicircular portion.
