Making galvanic batteries.-I n t h e manufacture of accumulator electrodes, the bars of which the plates are composed, or the plates themselves, are forced through the die of a reducing - press. Thus, the ribbed electrode shown in Fig. 1, in which the spaces between the ribs are filled with active material, is forced through the die of a hydraulic or other press, Fig. 3, and is reduced to the cross-section shown in Fig. 2. These compressed bars are then inserted into or soldered to a strong lead frame. Or the plate can bo cast in one piece h, Fig. 14, provided on all sides with a solid edge i, so that after passage through the press j, Fig. 11, the finished plate will have solid strong edges from which the connecting-tongues &c. of the plate can be cut.
