Abstract

20,471. Klaber, A. D., and Cox, E. A. Sept. 22. Copying documents; feeding sheets.-In one form of apparatus for feeding sheets to rotary duplicators or the like, two arms m, carried at one end by a spring-controlled pivoted frame n, and actuated by a cam f through an adjustable lever h, have pivoted at or near their outer ends a spindle with rollers o and a gripping-device 5. This may consist of a plate with a strip of leather on the underside, and pins passing through the leather, or it may be roughened on the under surface in any suitable manner. On its forward movement, the pad 5 buckles the top sheet 1 of the pile on the table q against a spring-controlled stop v, which is then momentarily lowered by a cam engaging the rubber roller y, the gripper 5 being meanwhile preferably at rest. The sheet is thus delivered between the roller 2 and the drum a. On the return movement, the gripper 5 is turned up a small distance from the paper, and, further rotation being prevented by stops, the rollers o then slide over the surface until the operation begins again. In another form, the bars m carry at their ends a cross-bar having one or more adhesive pads, which rest on the pile when in their outermost position. By a further movement of the cam, the pads are lifted up, carrying the top sheet with them, and in this position they preferably remain at rest a short time to allow any lower sheets to drop. They then move forward with the sheet, and deliver it to the feed-roller. In this position, they again remain preferably at rest while the sheet is taken, and then return for the next sheet. The pads, of gelatine or the like, may be kept moist by boxes enclosing them. The rods m may be actuated either by a cam, or other mechanism such as a trigger device.
