Abstract

18,587. Massard, J. A. J. ChalignÚ. Dec. 17, A.D. 1903, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Plants, supporting and training.- Young trees are connected to their supports by means of removable appliances which yield as the trees grow thicker. Each fastening consists of two metal bands, one of which is shown in Fig. 1. This band b, a, c is made of thin malleable metal and of the form shown, rings e of rubber or other material being placed between the slots k and slits l. The softened ends of a narrower and shorter band of tempered steel, which is also fitted with rubber rings, are passed through the slots k and bent round as shown at d, Fig. 4. The appliance is passed round the tree h and support g as shown, and one end is passed through a slot m in the other end and bent round. The slits l coincide and permit of the crossing of the band b, a, c. Nails or screws may be passed through the holes o. The band b, a, c is made wide at x so that it may not be weakened by the slits l.
