Abstract

18,498. Stephenson, A. F. H. Aug. 26. Damping envelopes, copying-paper, &c.-Comprises a roller c in contact with the bottom of an absorbing-pad b, to which the supply of moisture can be regulated by adjusting nuts d' on the plate d, which presses the pad against the front of the reservoir a. Wicks b<1> protrude through openings a<3>. When not in use, the apparatus is laid down, resting on the top plate a<4>, the water then passing from the wicks to the pad by capillary attraction. The reservoir has a handle a<2> and a filling-aperture. Springs or other means may be used to restore the pad from its compressed condition when the nuts d' on the plate d are loosened and the reservoir front and plate d mav be provided with oppositely-directed flanges a<5>, d<5>.
