Abstract

16,708. Tyack, R., and Howard & Bullough. July 29. Slubbing and roving frames.-The swing carrier wheel 1, which gears the jack driving-wheel 2 with the wheel 3 from which the bobbins are driven, is more rigidly supported by a modified construction of the arms 4, 6. The U-shaped arm 6 supporting and covering the wheel 1 is made with solid ends, which are bored out to fit on the bosses of the bearings supporting the shaft 7 carrying the wheel 3, and with bosses serving as bearings for a shaft 8 carrying the wheel 1. The arm 4 is forked at one end to embrace the shaft 8 at each side of one of its bearings. To facilitate the removal of the arm 6, the bearing 11 for one end of the shaft 7 is bolted to the wheel-box 9 across a slot 12, through which the bearing, when unbolted and rotated through a right-angle, may be passed. In this manner, after withdrawing the shaft and wheel, one lug of the arm is released from its boss, and the other lug can then be withdrawn from its supporting-boss. The Provisional Specification describes a development of the invention described in Specification No. 15,720, A.D. 1884, for mounting and supporting one of the planet bevel-wheels which impart a differential motion. According to this, the boss of the wheel is extended on its inner side preferably until it passes beyond the central plane of the torque, thus obviating the tendency to wear and wobble on the shaft, and the length of bearing of the cross-shaft is maintained by retaining the bell-shape of the wheel and dishing out the hole in the bush so as to enclose the boss of, and provide a further bearing for, the wheel.
