Rolling.-The roils a', a<2>, a<3>, &c. of a tuberolling mill are driven independently through spur-wheel gearing by electromotors A<1> A<2>, A<3>, and are spaced at increasing distances apart so that the billet is not seized by one set of rolls until it has left the previous one. The mandrels b<1>, b<2>, b<3>, which extend the whole length of the mill, are provided with conical ends b, on which the billet is threaded, and which have collars which serve as an abutment on the support c, and are supported where necessary by spring- mounted rollers d. The mandrels have collars f against which bulbs g, which occupy the eye " of the rolls, abut, as described in Specification No. 1386, A.D. 1903, and when of great length they may be built up in lengths, as shown in Fig. 10. To facilitate the threading-on of the billet, the abutment f in the support c may be lowered by a handle h operating a weighted lever g. In this case, the thrust is taken by a fork operated by levers l, m and engaging a collar on the mandrel b<3>.
