Abstract

14,327. Winegrarden, A. van, and Crawford, G. M. June 25. Driving and like chains ; attachments ; guiding. - In an aÙronautical apparatus, the two pairs 7 of chains, running on wheels 4,4, 6, 6, 9, 9, are provided with cross - bars 11, 12 riveted or otherwise connected to lugs on some of the links of the chains. The cross - bars carry sails 10 which raise or buoy the body of the air ship &c. The ascending parts of the chains (shown on the right of the wheels 4, 4) cause the sails to collapse, while the descending parts (shown on the left of the wheels 4, 4) open them out. Similar cross-bars 13,14 prevent the collapsed sails shown on the right-hand side of the Figure from flapping about as they are ascending.
